KNITTING HAS ALWAYS BEEN PART OF ME

Salomé Saavedra, Creative Director of Mikrama Studio, is a textile artist from Barranquilla with a deep passion for weaving, known artistically as XALO. Her pieces draw inspiration from various sources and aim to preserve the ancestral weaving traditions of indigenous cultures, appreciation of nature, and exploration of contemporary techniques such as dreamcatchers, looms, crochet, macramé, textile art, sculpture, and natural dyeing. She is committed to using natural fibers, caring for the environment, and has a mission to revitalize and promote textile art in modern cities.

Knitting has been part of her life since she was 7 years old. An aunt taught her to crochet to make dresses and accessories for her Barbies. She never imagined that art would become her passion and her profession.

Her work focuses on three main areas. The first is educational, where she teaches how to create, adapt, and reproduce weaving techniques. The second is the creation of handmade textile pieces on commission, and the third is the supply of materials so that anyone can create their own textile pieces.

In Mikrama you can commission your favorite pieces to give life to your spaces to the right size and design, you can also find textile pieces, sculptures, tapestries, courses, tools, supplies and kits to create your own works of art.
